ISO bearings are expressed in the inch system rather than the metric system as specified by ISO. Japan and European countries use the metric system which is in accordance with ISO directives. The expansion of thrust bearings series (single-direction with flat seats) is laid out in a similar manner as the radial bearings.ISO specifies methods of calculating the basic dynamic load rating of rolling bearings within the size ranges shown in the relevant ISO publications, manufactured from contemporary, commonly used, high quality hardened bearing steel, in accordance with good manufacturing practice and basically of conventional design as regards the shape of rolling contact surfaces.

Thrust bearings support axial loads, which are parallel to the axis of rotation, while radial bearings support turning shafts perpendicular to the axis of rotation.Split bearings are ideal for hard-to-reach places and quick installation while roller bearings are suitable for heavier loads.Bearing units typically consist of a housing, bearing, seal, lubricant and shaft locking mechanism.
